PARIS, 8th OLYMPIC GAMES, 1924
c256. The Olympic Vase. Sèvres porcelain, 33.3cm (13.1")
tall, designed by talented artist M.O. Guillonet and executed
by Bracquemond at the world famous porcelain factory of Sèvres.
Golden laurel branches are handpainted on French blue background,
the white medallions depicting Boxing, Shot Put, Wrestling and
Javelin, on gray background with green border. Official report
p. 804. The vases were made in several versions to accommodate
all Olympic events. They were presented by the Paris City Council
to gold medal winners in individual events only. EF. Very rare

59.5x49.5cm (23.4"x19.5"), designed by Bernard Naudin.
Winged goddess of Victory between allegorical figures. Signed
by French Committee President, and IOC President Pierre de Coubertin.
Only the 1924 diplomas were signed by Pierre de Coubertin. Ellen
King was a multi-world record holder in swimming; she won silver
in Amsterdam 1928 in Backstroke and in the 4x100-Meter Freestyle

The report covers the Paris summer and Chamonix winter Olympic

du Théatre de Plein Air. Paris, 1925. 73pp., number 282
of 750, in French language. G. Charles won the literary gold medal
in the Paris Art Competition with this book. M. Pottecher, recipient
of Coubertin's letter in lot 233, is the originator of the Open
Air Theater of which "Jeux Olympique" ("Olympic
Games") is the first performance. With a portrait of the
author, G. Charles, engraved in copper by famous Japanese artist
Foujita. Stiff red covers, detached, chipped, contents foxed,

c267. Brother's of the Wind Plaque, 1925. Bronze, uniface, 12.7x3.4cm
(5"x1.3"), by R. Tait McKenzie. Group of eight nude
speedskaters in characteristic poses during a race, "Brothers
of the Wind" on raised panel below. R. Tait McKenzie (1867-1938)
was America's foremost sculptor of sport and athletes including
Jesse Owens. His "Joy of Effort" was donated by the
USOC to Stockholm in 1912, and it was displayed on the walls of
the Olympic Stadium. In 1893 and 1897 he closely observed speed
skating champions, and published several articles on speedskating.
"Brothers of the Wind" is one of his medallic master

15.8x24cm (6.2"x9.4"), in French language. Incl. Coubertin's
letter to IOC members on transfer of power to new IOC president
Baillet-Latour, and his designation as honorary IOC president
